"The way the NVR course was delivered was very accessible and you can see how you can share and impart the NVR principles to carers and parents.  The ethos and approach is key and this is why I can see it having such a positive impact."

Facilitator's testimony brings principles to life

"The testimonies of one of the facilitators really helped bring this approach and the principles to life, which was helpful.  The principles seem simple, but effective, which is what you want as a practitioner.  I would definitely recommend the NVR programme to parents and professionals. "

Challenging thinking and deepening knowledge

"Four days of being surrounded by people who want talk and learn about NVR has been a real treat. The course has challenged my thinking, deepened my knowledge, allowed me to be creative about NVR and put me outside my comfort zone, which is where we know the magic happens. And hopefully I will have gained a network of brilliant NVR practitioners to boot."

What is Contactivity

Avoidance in young people is increasingly visible – in school refusal, social withdrawal, anxiety, low motivation, and disengagement. Contactivity is a powerful new therapeutic and educational model, developed by clinical psychologist and NVR pioneer Dr Uri Weinblatt, to meet this growing need.

Drawing on and extending the principles of Nonviolent Resistance (NVR), Contactivity offers practical, relational interventions for reconnecting with young people who seem unreachable or unwilling to engage. This two-day training provides a comprehensive introduction to the Contactivity model and its application in therapy, education, and caregiving.

The course will cover:

  •  The three levels of avoidance: self, other, and group
  • Avoidance and its links to anxiety, ASD, OCD, school refusal, BPD, and addictions
  • The "demand–withdrawal" cycle and how to break it
  • Technology’s role in avoidance—and how to harness it for reconnection
  • The ten core principles of Contactivity
  • Shame, disconnection, and the emotional roots of avoidance
  • Video games as bridges to connection
  • The Connecting Sit-In and Systemic Mirroring as practical interventions

Who is it for?

Practitioners already trained in NVR and professionals working with avoidant young people in therapeutic, educational, or care settings. No prior Contactivity training is required.

About the Trainer

Dr Uri Weinblatt is the developer of Contactivity and co-author (with Professor Haim Omer) of the original NVR parent manual. He has conducted foundational outcome research in NVR and is internationally recognised for his work with avoidance, school refusal, and personality disorders.
